May 10th  Smithtown @ Huntington

The Girls Varsity DOMINATED league leading SMITHTOWN today with an incredible 12 to 7 win.  The Blue Devils led throughout and at one point led 12-3 after a 7-3 halftime score.  There was such outstanding play by everyone of the girls including a seek and destroy offense and a smothering defense.  Highlights: Freshman Emily Sammis shutting down one of the country’s top offensive players, Jen Maget.  Outstanding Goal play from Kelly Potter and Jean Tuohey, who made her varsity debut.  Look for more of her athleticism in the weeks ahead.  Jen Bindrum, Megan Turner and Jackie Brown were the Wall of Pain this afternoon, carving up the best offense in Suffolk County .  Offensively, Sydney Greene could not be contained, scoring a memorable backhand into the upper right corner.  Amanda Pettit was on fire with darting moves, precision passing, and stickwork that left Smithtown dizzy.  Erin Maybeck and Kristen Boege proved effective in ball control and movement, and Kathleen Macari showed that she’s ready for the big time with 3 big time scores.  Kim Kois and Donna McCann also had outstanding games.  This was a true TEAM WIN.

May 23rd 2000 Huntington @ Smithtown
After trailing 4-1 at halftime and seemingly ready to call it a season, the Huntington Girls Lacrosse Team erupted for 6 straight goals and defeated Smithtown 8-6 to advance to the semifinals on Thursday versus Bayshore. After being stymied by Smithtown's All-American goalkeeper in the first half the Devils only had an unassisted goal by Sydney Green on the board. If not for goalkeeper Joanna Perini, it would have been a much greater Smithtown lead. With Karen Sulinski taking the draw, Sydney Green and Amanda Pettit led the comeback effort from the opening second half whistle. Jen Bindrim came up with some key loose balls, but it was Pettit and Green who poured in 5 consecutive goals. With Megan Turner going out of the game with an injury, Jackie Ackerly came off the bench to shut down the Smithtown counterattack with continued stellar goalkeeping from Perini. The Lady Devils exhibited outstanding ball control in the waning moments to seal the victory. Other outstanding efforts were turned in by Kim Kois and Sulinski, who controlled the draw throughout the second half.
May 6, 2000 Huntington vs Harborfields
Girls won today over Harborfields 6-5 in overtime. They thoroughly outplayed them but Harborfields goalie came up big time after time. The score was only 1-0 at half. HHS continued to dominate but found themselves down 4-3 late in the game.  They scored to send it to overtime. Harborfields scored first in the first 3 minute overtime session. With time running out (I think 10 seconds), Erin Maybeck, on a set-up by Amanda Pettit, scored from the left side. The Devils scored the only goal in the second OT to ice it. (Check Newsday tomorrow for a better game description). With four wins (all of them league wins) the Devils are looking like they may have a playoff shot.
