FOR THE BOND ISSUE Huntington
High School FACT:
For less than $17 a year – or as little as one cup of coffee per month
– we can have: New Multi-Purpose
Field ·
A safe, synthetic turf field that supports three
times the usage of natural grass, thereby reducing costs of busing
athletes off-site for practices and games. An estimated cost savings of
$15,500 annually. ·
A powerful built-in
drainage system that allows the field to be used despite heavy rain. Fewer
games, competitions and practices will be cancelled. · A safer field for everyone: the HHS physical education department, school teams, the 2004 NYS Champion Blue Devil Marching Band, 2005 NYS Champion Boys Lacrosse and 2003-04 Suffolk County Champion Girls Soccer teams. · An outdoor athletic field that is equivalent to other area high schools. New Track · A resilient-surfaced, 400-meter track constructed of polyurethane-bound rubber, resulting in a reduction in injuries · A track that conforms to New York State guidelines and allows the district to host Invitational Meets and Division Championships at our school. New
Outdoor &Indoor Bleachers ·
Safer outdoor and indoor bleachers with guardrails to meet
current standards for accessibility.
FACT: Replacement
parts for our 50-year-old indoor bleachers are difficult to find and
costly. Approximately $18,000 was spent on repairs last year. New Fuel Tank · A new 10,000-gallon oil tank to replace our 47-year-old, leaking, below-ground tank. Refurbished Auditorium ·
Replacement of asbestos floor tile and outdated heating and
ventilation systems as well as repainting and reupholstering lower level
seats. FACT:
The 1,800-seat HHS auditorium is one of the four largest in
Suffolk County. It is used by many outside organizations, including the
Huntington Choral Society, Men’s Chorus, Suffolk County Music
Educators’ Association (SCMEA); the Long Island Senior Pops Orchestra
and many dance companies, including the Huntington Ballet Co.
New York State will reimburse 27% of the
cost of these projects in the form of state aide. The $3.365 million bond issue translates to
only $16.80 per year over twenty
years for the average Huntington homeowner with an assessed value of
$4,000.
