three goals. Carino scored all three goals, the first goal off a loose ball,
the second assisted by Basini and the third assisted by John Fulton.
With the lead down to one Huntington continued to press Comsewogue just
missing a couple of chances to tie the score. Comsewogue was able to
take the lead back to 2 goal with a good clear, which lead to a
fastbreak to score with just 16 seconds in the half 9-7. The 3rd
quarter was filled with action but not much scoring as Comsewogue scored
the only goal to extend their lead to 10-7 after 3 quarters. The 4th
started with Comsewogue extending their lead to 4 as they scored first.
Huntington continued to play hard looking to make a comeback. The Devils
next goal was created out of desperation as Leland Davis pick up the
loose ball outside the goal area and while being chased fired the ball
up field. Carino out fought the Comsewogue defender to get the loose ball.
He then a passed the ball to Logigian on the crease for the goal 11-8. Comsewogue was able to
answer back with the next goal to extend the lead back to 4 goals.

net. Huntington took another penalty and with time winding down they had
to chase the ball. Comsewogue found a man open for the score 13-9.

| May 25th Suffolk County Semi Final HHH East @ Huntington |
|
The
Huntington Blue Devils faced HHH East in a play-off game at Huntington,
the only team to beat the Devils in league play this season. The Devils
came out with great intensity, determination, and a good game plan.
Huntington controlled this game from the start to the end. Doug Kocis
and Pierre Delva won most of the face-offs to continually give the
Devils possession and Huntington also controlled most of the ground
balls throughout the game. John
Fulton got the Devils on the scoreboard first, scoring unassisted off a
dodge. Kocis drove from the center midfield slot to his right and found
Jim Creighton on the crease when Creighton’s man left him to try and
double team Kocis. The Devils opened up a 3 goal lead as goalie Leland
Davis fired the ball up field to avoid losing the ball.
Ralph Carino was able to gather the loose ball and start a nice
sequence, passing to Mark Boccard who passed to Brandon Logigian on the
crease for the score. Kocis continued the Huntington barrage as he drove
by his man and beat the goalie to put the Devils up 4-0.
HHH East finally got on the scoreboard to close out the 1st
quarter. Huntington led 4-1 at the end of one quarter. The
second quarter did not have as much action as the first. Huntington was
able to keep HHH East scoreless while they widened their lead, scoring 2
goals in the quarter. Fulton scored his second of the game, driving with
the left hand for the unassisted goal. Huntington kept constant pressure
on the Hills East defense throughout the quarter. On a loose ball
situation near the goal, Boccard came up with the loose ball and fired
it home to widen the Devils lead to 6-1. Huntington went to half time
leading 6-1. Huntington
started the 3rd quarter killing a penalty to preserve their
5-goal lead. Carino got the
Devils off to a good start as he scooped up a loose ball rebound and put
it in the cage extending Huntington’s lead. Hills East scored the
games next goal, keeping them in striking distance. Carino scored the
Devil’s next goal on a strange play that saw a pass intended for one
of his teammates deflect to him, which he quickly deposited in the cage
for the score. Carino got Huntington’s next goal off a Logigian pass
to make the score 9-2 Huntington at the end of 3 quarters. In
the 4th quarter Huntington missed opportunities to widen
their lead, keeping the door open for Hills East to get back in the
game. Hills East took advantage of a Huntington penalty to score an Xtra
man goal. Huntington continued to miss shots as the Hills East goalie
made some very nice saves to keep his team in the game. Hills East
scored again as the Devils failed to cover the crease leaving a Hills
East player open for the shot and the score. The ball went back and
forth as play got a little sloppy. Fulton closed out the scoring,
receiving a cross crease pass from Logigian. Huntington effectively ran
the clock out for last two minutes. Final score Huntington 10- HHH East
4. The
Devils will take on the Warriors of Comsewogue at Ward Melville on
Wednesday at 5: 30 PM. |

| April 20th Huntington @ Half Hollow Hills West |
| The Devils got a big scare today at HH Hills West in a game that was close and tested the Devils. The first quarter was played well on both offense and defense by the Devils. On Defense John Orr did a great job stripping the ball away from Walker and controlled him behind the goal. The defense took the ball away often, which gave the offense the ball most of the quarter. The Devils moved the ball well to score 4 goals to take a 4-2 lead after one quarter. Huntington scored 2 more goals in the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead. Just before the half Huntington got caught out of position, which gave Hills West a fast break with only 50 seconds left. The Hills goal came on a well-placed bounced shot from the point over the goalies shoulder to cut the lead to 6-3. The Devils seemed out of focus in the third quarter making bad passes and rushing the ball on offense. Hills ...inspired and playing well, challenged the Devils beating them to loose balls and winning face-offs. Hills took advantage scoring 4 unanswered goals. The Devils had their chances to score but the Hills goalie was hot making some very good saves. Hills West took the lead 7-6 after 3 quarters. Hills Walker played a major role in the second half as he moved to midfield. Walker's play led Hills to a 2-goal lead 8-6 with 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter. This is when the Devils stepped up and controlled the rest of the quarter. Huntington started moving the ball well, which created good some scoring chances that they took advantage of. A good clearing pass to Jim Creighton led to a fast break. Creighton passed the ball to the point and Mark Boccard took the pass and fired a bounce shot over the goalies shoulder to bring the Devils within one...8-7. Huntington continued to play well on offense. Boccard took the ball on the left side and drove to the hole beating his man for the score on a well-placed shot that tied the game at 8. The Devils had possession of the ball with score tied when Hills West fell asleep letting Brandon Logigian just walk in to take a wide open shot that bounced over the goalies shoulder just grazing the pipe before going in the goal. Logigian. Showing poise and pride the Devils continued to play inspired on the offensive end. On an unsettled situation Derek Basini got the ball on the left side of the goal looking to make the pass to Ralph Carino but Carino was covered so Basini fired the shot past the Hills goalie to give Huntington a two-goal lead with about 3 minutes left in the game. Pierre Delva who came up big on face-offs in the last quarter won the face-off to give the Devils the ball. Hills West decided to double the ball and have the goalie leave the cage to guard one of the Huntington offensive players with 2:30 left in the 4th quarter. Aaron Marsh finished off Hills as he beat the double team to score on a defenseman who jumped into the goal. Delva again won the face off and the devils were able to run out most of the clock to take the victory 12-8. |
| April 17th Whitman @ Huntington |
| Huntington controlled the action from the first whistle. While the score didnot match the time of possession, Huntington was in charge the whole game. Doug Kocis scored first for the Devils. Huntington was winning the face-offs and continued to create scoring chances. Whitman tied the score at one on a nice move and shot from the right attack position. Ralph Carino put the Devils back on top 2-1. Whitman then came out of a loose ball scramble near midfield and number 12 Mike Maier score to even the score. Huntington again took the lead 3-2 as Carino put home the rock off of a feed from Kocis. Huntington continued to keep the ball in their offensive end of the field putting pressure on Whitman's defense. The devils took a 4-2 lead as Brandon Logigian found Carino for the score to give Huntington the lead at half time. Huntington came out and controlled the ball for the first 5 minutes of the third quarter but came up scoreless. The Devils then took back to back penalties and killed a two man down situation. Huntington took a commanding 5-2 lead as Carino scored again on a pass from Logigian. Whitman continued to play hard but they could never really stop the Devils offense. Huntington scored again this time on a pretty feed from the center midfield slot as Mark Boccard drove to the cage he found Logigian cutting across the crease putting it home for a 6-2 Devils lead. Aaron Marsh got the ball behind the cage and drove right beating his man to score unassisted 7-2 Devils. Huntington got called for a penalty which lead to an Xtra man score by Whitman's number 6. Huntington started to get a little sloppy with the ball and gave up another loose ball score to Whitman's Mike Maier 7-4. Whitman was playing hard trying to get back in the game. Kocis won the face-off clean, taking off toward the goal passing the ball behind then out to Boccard, who found Logigian for the score 8-4. Whitman was able to score again on a pass to a cutting number 6, which narrowed the lead to 8-5. That was Whitman's last score. Jim Creighton scored to make it 9-5 as Whitman got caught behind the cage trying to a get a loose ball. Kocis scored on a feed from John Fulton to make it 10-5. Huntington was not done as Carino scored again this time on a pass from Kocis 11-5, which would be the final score. The Devils ran the last two minutes off the clock passing up opportunities to score more. Final Huntington 11 Whitman 5 |
| April 14th Huntington @ Oceanside |
| The
Devils traveled to Oceanside on Saturday but left their game in
Huntington. The Devils were never in this game after the first quarter.
Oceanside jumped out front with some good passing, which led to some
easy shots for scores. The Devils made errors passing, and catching,
that stalled the offense. After a shaky start Huntington finally put
together some passes that led to one shot in close on the goalie who
made the save and a good hard shot by Jim Creighton that hit the pipe.
It looked like Huntington’s offense might come alive but they were
unable to get the goals to make it a game. It was that way most of
the day on offense. Oceanside led after one quarter 5-1. Oceanside
continually won the loose ball scrambles and controlled the tempo of the
game. Oceanside was able to make it a game of transition play and
unsettled situation that put too much pressure on the defense throughout
the game. The defense was unable to handle the onslaught and
Huntington’s offense could not control the ball to take the pressure
off the defense. Huntington made unforced errors all game both
mental and physical. Oceanside played a very good game and was the best
team by far Huntington has seen this year. Final... Oceanside 17

| April 6 Hauppauge @ Huntington |
| The Devils came
out strong offensively in the first quarter scoring four goals. Ralph
Carino scored twice on feeds to the crease putting one through the
five-hole and Aaron Marsh scored on a nice move while Huntington was man
down. Brandon Logigian also scored in the first quarter. Huntington’s
defense played well while even strength, but continued their season long
trend of taking too many penalties letting Hauppauge back in the game.
Hauppauge took advantage scoring three EMO goals feeding the
crease area for some easy scores. Huntington took a 4-3 lead to the
half. Neither team was able get much going in the third quarter. The
Devils spend much of the third quarter playing defense because of
penalties, which took them out of their offense. Hauppauge scored to tie
the score at 4 apiece. Mark Boccard put Huntington back in the lead,
receiving a nice feed as he cut to the goal. Hauppauge continued to play
hard tying the score at 5. The fourth quarter was dominated by good
defense by both teams. Huntington goalie Leland Davis was great, making
the big saves to keep Hauppauge from scoring. The Devils were able to
spend most of the quarter on offense. Logigian, on a nice move from the
left side, hit the pipe and a rocket from the left outside by Boccard
the hit the pipe bouncing all the way out of bounds. Huntington kept the
pressure on as Marsh, working the ball behind, found a cutting John
Fulton all alone on the crease but the shot went over the cross bar.
Marsh put the Devils back in the lead for good, driving around the right
side for the score. Hauppauge did not back down, trying hard to tie the
game; they just missed on several chances.
Huntington took a two-goal lead with about four minutes left in
the game; a score by Doug Kocis. Hauppauge played with a never die
attitude till the final whistle. Final Huntington 7- Hauppauge 5.
